Lavender

Lavender is often referred to as the Swiss Army Knife of essential oils.  It has so many uses it is like carrying around a plethora of other oils.  I would venture to guess that if oily people carry around oils, Lavender is going to be one of them.  Lavender’s versatility makes it a great beginner oil but one that all oilers will want to keep on hand.

Lavender is a perennial shrub-like plant that is native to the Old World.  It is mostly grown now to be distilled into essential oils, but it is also used as a culinary herb.  It is also in the same family as mint plants.  It is highly prized for its pleasant scent.  It is added to many cosmetic products.

It is great to add to any of your skin care products.  It has great benefits to support the health and natural functions of your skin.  One of the next steps in the toxic free lifestyle is to make your own homemade skin care products and Lavender makes a great addition to those, don’t worry if that sounds complicated.  There are some very basic recipes for making your own chemical-free products for you and your family.

Ever have a night where you were just couldn’t unwind?  The stresses of the day are weighing you down and you just can’t seem to shake them.  Lavender is also great for promoting relaxation.  Whether you are adding it to an Epsom salt bath, spritzing, diffusing in your bedroom, or massaging it on your neck or the bottom of your feet it is a great way to unwind and promote relaxation and restful sleep.
